In the 1980's, a new drug arrived in the United States, called “Crack”, a powerful and extremely addictive form of cocaine. The production of crack cocaine started in the late seventies, however the drug did not gain much popularity until the early eighties.  Within a few months, its use escalated to near epidemic proportions (Bayer 16). Deadly and serious this crack explosion has also high - lighted the general threat posed by the illegal drug use of cocaine.

Crack has ruined many lives and continues to ruin lives today. People who try crack are usually trying to escape from the horrors of their lives, but instead they encounter the claws of an extremely addictive substance, which causes them more harm.
